HORIZON BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD CONTRACT INFORMATION:
NMH is Out of Network with Horizon
How Does This Affect You?
Newton Memorial Hospital and Horizon BCBS of NJ no longer have a contract, which means the Hospital is no longer in the Horizon network. The impact this has on you depends on your individual healthcare plan with Horizon.
Here is how individual plans are affected:
- Emergency Department Visits Still Covered: No matter your healthcare plan with Horizon, Horizon will cover all Emergency Department visits and admissions through the Emergency Room. No insurance company can restrict subscribers’ access to Emergency services. Any Horizon subscriber who uses the Newton Memorial Hospital Emergency Room will receive the same coverage they would have received had they been in network.
- Subscribers with Out of Network Benefits: You should contact Newton Memorial Hospital Patient Access at 973.579.8700 to schedule a procedure. Once a procedure is done at NMH, patients need to send any check they receive from the insurance company to the Hospital’s Billing Department. Newton Memorial will let you know if there is anything further required. For specific billing questions, please call 973.579.8416.
- Subscribers enrolled in a Horizon HMO or other Managed Care Plan that does not provide Out of Network Benefits: Unfortunately, Horizon restricts the healthcare choices for patients whose plan does not include out of network benefits. If your plan does not include out of network benefits, Horizon will not provide coverage for you at Newton Memorial except to receive emergency care. You should speak with a Horizon representative regarding the restrictions of your plan and for help finding providers in the area who are in-network.
Preexisting conditions: As a general rule, a patient enrolled in an out of network HMO or other managed care plan may come to NMH for all emergency room visits or if the patient was receiving care at NMH at the time the contract was terminated:
- For up to six months for post operative care;
- For up to one year for continued oncological (cancer) treatment;
- For up to one year for continued psychiatric treatment; and
- Through the duration of pregnancy and up to six weeks after delivery.
