Community Resources

Our vision at Newton Medical Center is to be the premiere community-based healthcare provider. Improving the health of people in the communities we serve goes beyond the walls of our hospital. Dedication to the community allows us to be a resource not only for outstanding healthcare but also in community support, spirit and pride.

Newton Medical Center is a Smoke-free campus

The Hospital became designated as fully 'non-smoking' on January 1, 2004. The mandate includes all inside areas including restrooms, and the outside areas surrounding the Hospital. This means that smoking in selected areas near entrances and exits is no longer permitted. Of course, we need your cooperation to create healthy air in and around Newton Medical Center.

Newton Medical Center's Quitcenter is for those wishing to eliminate tobacco dependence from their lives. The services are provided by experienced health professionals who have completed specialist training in both tobacco dependence counseling and pharmacological treatment of tobacco dependence, provided by the Tobacco Dependence Program at UMDNJ School of Public Health. Group counseling is conducted at the Center for Prevention and Counseling, 93 Main Street, Newton, New Jersey.

Newton Medical Center's commitment to the communities it serves is to provide programs that foster wellness and intervention. The health problems associated with smoking have been well documented. Smoking has been proven to be one of the primary causes in cardiac, circulatory and lung diseases and many types of cancer. Secondary smoke can also cause serious health problems and is especially hazardous to children. It is because of the harmful effects associated with smoking that Newton Medical Center is making every effort to help you to eliminate smoking from your life.

Call (973) 579-8969 or visit www.nj.quitnet.com for information, advice and support to stop smoking.
