What is Newton Memorial Hospital doing to prepare
for a Bio-terrorism event?
The best defense against bio-terrorism is being prepared. Newton
Memorial Hospital is working in cooperation with federal, state,
and local public health agencies to rapidly identify, report, and
treat any biological threat. For the past two years, Newton Memorial
Hospital has been meeting with local health departments, the Office
of Emergency Management for both Morris and Sussex counties to be
ready to care for patient involved in a biological or chemical disaster
in our community. Newton Memorial Hospital is part of the "LINCS"
State wide notification process for health care and law enforcement
agencies. Should any case of possible bio-terrorism be identified,
the public would be notified immediately and advised of the appropriate
action to take.
Since the tragic events of September 11, we are now even better
prepared to fight against all forms of terrorism. The hospital is
continually providing educational programs and materials on bio-terrorism
to both physicians and staff. We have increased our emergency supplies
and equipment so that we may better serve our community while protecting
our employees.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has answers to
