NEWTON – Newton Rotary Club continued its long-standing commitment to Newton Memorial Hospital by once again presenting the Hospital with a check from their Annual Newton Memorial Hospital Rotary Golf Outing.
This year’s check totaled $24,848.43 and is the largest amount that Newton Rotary has donated to the Hospital since the golf outing began 40 years ago.
In 2003, Newton Rotary Club committed to donating $150,000 over a 10-year period to help offset expenses related to the expansion and renovation of Newton Memorial Hospital’s state-of-the-art Emergency Department, a project the Hospital completed in 2005.
Of the $24,848.43 that Newton Rotary donated to the Hospital this year, $15,000 will be applied toward the Rotary’s commitment to the Emergency Department and the remainder will be placed in a restricted fund for the Hospital, which now totals more than $250,000.
“It shows how strongly we felt then, and how strongly we feel now about the work going on at Newton Memorial Hospital,” said Newton Rotary Treasurer Robert McCracken. “This is our community hospital and we want to make sure we’re doing all we can to ensure its continued viability.”
In its 41st year, this year’s golf outing will be held at Newton Country Club on Wednesday, Sept. 10, with a rain date of Wednesday, Sept. 16. All monies raised at the outing are donated to the Hospital.
Sponsored by The Anthony and Heidi Lentini Family, this year’s Newton Memorial Hospital Rotary Golf Outing will recognize Event Honoree Dr. William C. Gray, a Rotarian since 1955 and past chairman of the North Jersey Healthcare Corporation Board of Directors. Last year’s Honoree was Joseph P. Quinn
“We are pleased to honor Bill Gray at this year’s event,” McCracken said. “He has a long, proud history in the community, not only as a respected businessman, but as a Past President (1965-66) and active member of the Newton Rotary Club.”
To inquire about sponsorships or participating in this year’s outing, please call Smith-McCracken Funeral Home at (973) 383-4600 and ask for either Bob or Pam.
