NEWTON – Newton Memorial Hospital is proud to welcome Renee C. Comizio, M.D., a Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, to the Hospital staff. Dr. Comizio specializes in breast reconstruction and elective cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Comizio received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, her Master’s Degree from Columbia University and her Medical Degree from New York Medical College. She completed her training in General Surgery at Harvard University and received specialty training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Dartmouth Medical School in New Hampshire. She also served as Associate Program Director of the Plastic Surgery Residency and Assistant Professor at Dartmouth Medical School.

“Coming from a large academic institution, I look forward to bringing my specialty and style of medicine to a community hospital, where I can have more one-on-one interaction with patients and the physicians in the community,” she said.

Much of the work she will do as part of the hospital-affiliated Medical and Surgical Specialty Group will revolve around congenital breast asymmetry and reconstructive surgery of the breasts as part of cancer treatments.

“These patients have gone through the worrying and anxiety that comes with a cancer diagnosis and what I do will be the last process they will go through,” she said. “My goal is to help them recover some sense of independence and self esteem.”

Dr. Comizio began her medical training in women’s health but soon fell in love with surgery and plastic surgery.

“What attracted me to this field was the opportunity to assist patients of all ages, to do work on all parts of the body throughout the full spectrum of my patients’ lives.”

Dr. Comizio has published many research papers and given presentations about breast reconstructive surgery. Her areas of research interest have included designing patient-friendly ways of improving communication during surgical consultations.

“We’re delighted to welcome Dr. Comizio to our staff,” said Newton Memorial Hospital Vice President of Medical Affairs, David Lazarus, M.D. “She will be a strong addition to our impressive staff of skilled general surgeons while also providing a new resource to the community in areas of breast reconstruction and elective cosmetic plastic procedures.”

Dr. Comizio is also skilled at elective procedures, including body contouring surgery after weight loss or for general purposes and facial rejuvenation through non-invasive modalities.

She grew up in Franklin Lakes, Bergen County. Her father is a retired physician who worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Passaic County and her mother is a registered nurse. Part of what attracted her to Newton Memorial Hospital was the opportunity to return home with her husband and two young children to be closer to family and friends.

“New Jersey has always been my home and I’m happy to be part of the Newton Memorial Hospital medical staff,” she added.

Dr. Comizio’s office is located at Suite 207 of the Sparta Health & Wellness Center, 89 Sparta Avenue and will open the first week of June. Her office number is 973.940.8787.
