It’s that time of year again when area physicians and attorneys exchange their professional credentials for baseball caps and team jerseys for one of the friendliest local rivalries.

AUGUSTA – It’s that time of year again when area physicians and attorneys exchange their professional credentials for baseball caps and team jerseys for one of the friendliest local rivalries.

Members of the Sussex County Medical Society and the Sussex County Bar Association will step to the plate August 29th for the 28th Annual Doctors vs. Lawyers Softball Game, the proceeds from which will go to benefit the United Way of Sussex County.

“Through the doctor-lawyer softball game, the professional communities of legal and medical practitioners have all become friends and have raised funds for charity,” said Dr. Jeffrey Liegner, this year’s organizer. “This year’s event is more important than ever due to the drastic cuts to the local non-profits that serve our residents. We’re optimistic that this event will continue to grow and help the United Way mission of advancing the common good.

“The doctor-lawyer gamne has become a Sussex County tradition and will continue to help the residents of this community. It’s considered botha fundraiser and a friend-raiser,” he added.

The game will be held immediately after a regular 2 p.m. Skyhawks baseball game at Skylands field and is expected to begin around 5 p.m. Media sponsors for the event are the New Jersey Herald and WSUS/WNNJ Radio.

The popular local band Silver Train, featuring radiologist Dr. Barry Franklin, will perform live. This family friendly event is free to the public and will feature a bounce house for children, ball park style food and lots of free giveaways.
