Atlantic Health System has been awarded a grant from LIVESTRONG – part of the Lance Armstrong Foundation – to implement an artist in residence program for cancer patients at Newton Medical Center.

We received 2,362 votes in an online voting campaign to be one of 90 grantees chosen to implement proposed cancer support programs in LIVESTRONG’S 2012 Community Impact Project.

With the grant, Atlantic Health System will implement The Creative Center’s Hospital Artist In Residence program (named a best practice model by the National Endowment for the Arts), which offers Newton Medical Center cancer patients creative resources to help them meet the challenges of diagnosis, treatment and survivorship. The artist will begin working at Newton Medical Center in summer 2012, and will continue for one year.

The program is part of Atlantic Health System's efforts to heal and nurture patients and their families in body, mind and spirit.
