Patient Stories:
Newton is "like a good friend or family member"
When Ray Cordts was ten years old he visited the Emergency Department at Newton Medical Center. While playing with his friends he cut his chin open and needed stitches. With a Blue Cross / Blue Shield card in hand, his father brought him into the hospital where Dr. Michael Burgio fixed up Ray just in time to be ready for his show-n-tell at school.
This past Christmas Even Ray, now 28, made another visit to the Emergency Department with a much more serious problem. With food stuck in his esophagus, he could not pass anything to his stomach and was in much discomfort. Fortunately Ray, now also a Blue Cross / Blue Shield subscriber, knows he is fully covered for all visits to the Emergency Department. After being rushed to the hospital, Ray was medicated, monitored and received an emergency procedure by the Newton Medical Center team (including his old friend Dr. Burgio).
"The people at Newton Medical Center have always been there for me, and I know they always will," said Ray. "Like a good friend or family member, the hospital becomes a part of your life that you can always count on but you take for granted until something unexpected happens. It's comforting to know that my insurance fully covers emergency care at the hospital - even if my benefits are out-of-network. I am extremely grateful for having the hospital close to home, and for the caring doctors and nurses at Newton Medical Center who continue to be there for me throughout my life."
